Platinum has a dye-based ink in its range. Dyes have the advantage over pigments in that they are immediately water-soluble. This means that fountain pens are much easier to clean and if the fountain pen has dried out a little, all you have to do is put a drop of water on the nib and the dried ink will come off immediately and the fountain pen will start writing again straight away.
But a significant advantage over pigment inks is that they are much easier to mix with each other. (Although mixing inks is a very complicated topic, as you need to know a lot about the ink properties.) Unlike a pure CMY set, Platinum 9 offers ready-made ink colors that can be shaded with one another.
